Text

Since 1984, I have consistently produced and exhibited the works made of wood. One of the major features of my expression technique is the "Scorch". From around 2000, I started to scorching the surface of wood to make my works. I also adopted this technique into the flat world, and since around 2009, scorching a paper to make "Scorched Pictures". I consider that the burnt by heat is one of the technique that make a material stand out. The surface scorching by using and electric heating tool or grinder is not only colored but also make fine irregularities. Drawing of "Scorched Pictures" is a two-dimensional work, but I make it as if I carved a relief. Because thin paper is easy to torn, I am using 2mm thick paper "Kent board".
And the shape of wood or paper has been made under the theme of creatures. I have been creating the creatures which are living quietly in the ancient scenery of a time when humans did not exist like the sea where the lives were born or the rainforest where animals roaring. This world is the opposite of the computer society that pursues convenience and rationality as in modern times. I am exploring the origins of biodiversity and enjoying daily production while dreaming of a paradise for me.
